Integrated Social Programme

“I enjoyed the social activities a lot, the lessons were intensive and the host family accommodation was excellent.”

Michael Scheffler, Viking, Dresden, Germany

A Week at inlingua Manchester…

We understand that you want to relax, explore and have fun when you are with us. That is why we organise so many social events, excursions and activities with clients and teachers during your week. Keeping busy in the evenings means that you are also speaking more English, so you will progress faster. There is so much to see and do, you can do something different every night of the week if you want to!

Monday – The Welcome Drink

After a tiring first day at the school you will need to relax and reflect. So Andrew, the Manager, will take you to a local pub and buy you a drink immediately after lessons end on Monday evening to celebrate the end of the first day. It’s also a great way to start to get to know your colleagues and start to practise your social English. Let’s raise our glasses to a great first day before we go home to dinner!

Tuesday – Orientation Tour of Manchester City Centre

By the second evening you will be ready to begin to explore and see exactly how much Manchester has got to offer! We will take you on a tour of the city’s most important sights and attractions and so you can begin to find your way around. Make sure that you check the noticeboard at the school, there are so many live music events, concerts, bars, exhibitions, musicals and galleries to see. One week just isn’t enough! Let’s finish the tour with a well-earned drink in a typical friendly but lively Manchester pub!

Wednesday morning – B4B – Business For Breakfast Network Meeting

This is a group of Manchester managers and professionals who meet every week for a formal networking session. Our clients are always welcome to attend and a friendly welcome awaits you here. The club meet very early, the meeting starts at 06.45 hrs with coffee and introductions, then you have a full English breakfast altogether. Following this the group conducts their regular business and everyone must stand up and give a 60 second presentation of themselves to the group; who they are, where they are from, what’s their job, who do they work for etc. Don’t worry, we will prepare you for this in class beforehand! It is a great experience for all who participate and the favourite part of most clients’ week.

Wednesday afternoon – The Simulated Business Meeting

All of our clients tell us that they need to be able to run, organise and participate in business meetings in English. We help you to do this by running this role play every Wednesday afternoon. The group are asked to solve a business problem from a case study. Once we have found our President to run the meeting, we recruit all the other key staff and every client takes a specific role. Your teacher will help you to prepare for this session in class. Then at 14.00 hrs the group are brought together by a teacher and the meeting begins. All the time our teachers are taking notes ready for a productive feedback session immediately afterwards. It is fun but very useful practice!

Thursday – Evening Dinner Party

Together we have learnt where the absolute best restaurants are in the city centre! Our challenge tonight is to visit as many of the most interesting pubs in Manchester that we can before our dinner appointment. We will take you to some world class restaurants and delight you with the quality of the food. Britain has never been famous for its cuisine, but believe it or not, Manchester has got some special places to eat. The famous “Curry Mile” contains some of the finest Indian food in the world.

Friday – Presentation of Certificates

Friday lunchtime is when we come together to present the certificates of achievement to our clients who are leaving us after their course. It is a great time to celebrate your progress and renewed confidence when using your English for business and to build great relations and rapport with international colleagues. Well done everyone!
